Home tract: These camels belong to rrverian tract in Punjab. Mostly reared in the Lesser Cholistan and on the fringe irrigated areas of district Bahawalpur.

Morphological characters

Body: Heavy strong built, muscular and large framed

Body coat: The coat colour varies from light sandy to dark brown with short coarse hair. Dark brown colored animals are preferred by local people.

Head: Dome shaped, heavy, rough

Nose: Thick, roman type

Eyes: Medium, protruding, bright, round with alert look

Ears: Round, coarse, short, upstanding

Mouth: With pendulous, drooping lips

Neck: Medium sized with marked curve, thick

Quarters: Shoulders are strong, broad and well set to the chest.

Hump: Very well developed in males and is placed in the center of the back.

Chest: Broad

Chest pad: Well developed and its touching ground evenly shows good confirmation.

Legs: Strong, bony, stout and well separated so that legs do not rub while walking. Hind legs are slightly weaker than fore legs and are inward curved. The foot pads are medium sized and soft.

Udder: Well developed with straight and prominent milk vein, squarely apart teats.

Morphometric traits

Average body weight: Birth weight – male – 49 kg, female - 46kg; Adult males – 700-1100kg, females – 550-850 kg

Leg Length: Forelimb - 149 cm; Hindlimb - 157 cm

Body length: 163 cm

Heart girth: 238 cm

Height at withers: 200 cm

Neck length: 152 cm

Reproductive traits

Breeding age: 3 years

Calving interval: 754 days

Production traits

Daily milk yield: 10 kg per day; in well fed animals – 15 to 20 kg per day

Milk production per lactation: 2840 kg

Lactation length: 478 days

Fibre production: 2.46 kg per annum

Remarks: These camels can carry load upto 1052 kg on their back and can pull about 3700 kg on carts.
