Vitamin E, Selenium Deficiency, Encephalomalacia in Birds

Encephalomalacia associated with Vitamin E or Selenium deficiency has been reported in birds.

Species affected: Avian

Symptoms: Abnormal behaviour (aggression, changing habits); Anorexia (complete, partial); Arrhythmia; Ataxia (incoordination, staggering, falling); Decreased hatchability of eggs; Diarrhoea; Dullness, depression, lethargy, depressed, lethargic, listless; Dysmetria (hypermetria, hypometria); Dyspnoea; Generalized weakness (paresis, paralysis); Weakness, droop, paresis, paralysis of head, face, ears, jaw; Hyperesthesia, irritable, hyperactive; Hyperpnoea; Lack of growth or weight gain, retarded, stunted growth; Loss of (or loose) feathers; Opisthotonus; Seizures or syncope, convulsions, fits, collapse; Sinus arrhythmia; Tongue weakness (paresis, paralysis); Torticollis; Underweight (poor condition, thin, emaciated, unthriftiness, ill thrift); Weakness (paresis, paralysis) of legs, limbs in birds; Weakness (paresis, paralysis, drooping) of the wings; Weight loss;
