Fungi of the order Mucorales rarely cause systemic disease of the respiratory, nervous, digestive, and/or lymphatic systems. Rhinocerebral and nasal zygomycosis was reported in sheep. The submandibular lymphatic lesions in pigs can resemble streptococcal abscesses. The fungal agent Conidiobolus coronatus can cause single or multiple granulomatous lesions of the equine upper respiratory tract including the nasal passages, soft palate, or trachea; disseminated or cutaneous mucormycosis has been described in horses but is rare.

Species affected: Bovine, Equine, Ovine, Porcine

Symptoms: Abnormal lung or pleural sounds (rales, crackles, wheezes, friction rubs); Abnormal upper airway breathing sounds (stridor, airflow obstruction, stertor, snoring); Agalactia or dysgalactia; Alopecia, thinning, shedding, easily epilated hair; Anorexia (complete, partial); Blindness; Circling movements; Corneal oedema, opacity; Corneal ulcer; Coughing; Diarrhoea; Dullness, depression, lethargy, depressed, lethargic, listless; Dyspnoea; Epistaxis; Hypersalivation, frothing at the mouth; Exophthalmos; Fever; Head pressing; Swelling (mass) of head, face, ears, jaw, nose, nasal; Hyperpnoea; Lack of growth or weight gain, retarded, stunted growth; Lymphadenopathy; Mucoid nasal discharge (serous, watery); Purulent nasal discharge; Rough hair coat, dull, standing on end; Seizures or syncope, convulsions, fits, collapse; Skin erythema, inflammation; Skin ulcer, abrasion; Swelling of skin (subcutaneous, mass, lump, nodule); Underweight (poor condition, thin, emaciated, unthriftiness, ill thrift); Weight loss;
